The Story of Nasreddin Hodja
Nasreddin Hodja was born in 1208 in Hortu, a small village near Sivrihisar. When he was young, he was very curious and loved learning. He studied at a madrasa and dedicated his life to teaching.

In 1237, he moved to Akşehir and became a judge there. While he was working as a judge, he also told funny stories to teach people important lessons. His stories spread across the region quickly.

One day, while he was riding his donkey backwards, people asked him why. He replied with a thoughtful answer that made everyone laugh. This story became one of his most famous tales.

Nasreddin Hodja passed away in 1284 in Akşehir. His achievements lived on for centuries. Today, people around the world still enjoy his stories. UNESCO declared 1996 as the “International Nasreddin Hodja Year.”

Halide Edib Adıvar — A Courageous Writer
Halide Edib Adıvar was born in 1884 in İstanbul. She was an ambitious and confident young woman. She graduated from the American College for Girls in 1901 and became one of the first Turkish women to receive a higher education.

When the War of Independence started, she joined the Turkish national movement. While the soldiers were fighting on the front lines, Halide Edib was giving speeches to motivate the people. She was a responsible and caring person who dedicated her life to her country.

After the war, she travelled to many countries and wrote novels and memoirs about her experiences. Her most famous novel described the struggles of the Turkish people during the war. She passed away in 1964, but her legacy as a legendary writer and activist still inspires many people today.

Your task: Write the ending of the story (5–7 sentences). Use:
• Past Simple Tense for completed actions
• Past Continuous Tense for background actions
• Time clauses (when, while, as)

It was a cold winter night in 1922. Zehra was a young nurse at a small hospital near the front lines. While the soldiers were sleeping, she was taking care of the wounded. She was a patient and caring person.

Suddenly, a young soldier arrived at the hospital. He was injured and could not walk. Zehra ran to help him. As she was treating his wound, the soldier whispered something unexpected…
Your task: Write the ending of the story (5–7 sentences). Use:
• Past Simple and Past Continuous
