Read the descriptions of four traditional dishes from different countries. Then complete the table below.
Traditional Dishes from Around the World
1. Pad Thai (Thailand)
Pad Thai is one of the most popular street foods in Thailand. It is prepared by stir-frying flat rice noodles with eggs, tofu or shrimp, and bean sprouts in a hot wok. The dish is flavoured with tamarind sauce, fish sauce and lime juice. It is usually served with crushed peanuts and fresh lime on top. Pad Thai is enjoyed by both locals and tourists all over the world.

2. Paella (Spain)
Paella is a traditional rice dish that originates from Valencia, Spain. It is made with short-grain rice, saffron, olive oil, and a variety of seafood such as shrimp, mussels and squid. Vegetables like green beans and tomatoes are also added. The rice is cooked slowly in a wide, shallow pan until a crispy layer is formed at the bottom. It is often shared among family members at large gatherings.

3. Mantı (Türkiye)
Mantı is a beloved Turkish dish that is similar to small dumplings. It is prepared by filling tiny pieces of dough with seasoned minced meat, usually lamb or beef. The dumplings are then boiled or baked until they are cooked through. Mantı is served with a generous amount of garlic yoghurt and topped with melted butter and dried red pepper flakes. It is considered a special dish and is often prepared for guests.

4. Sushi (Japan)
Sushi is a world-famous Japanese dish. It is made with vinegared rice that is combined with fresh seafood, vegetables, or egg. The rice is shaped by hand or rolled in seaweed sheets called nori. Popular types include nigiri, where fish is placed on top of rice, and maki, where ingredients are rolled inside. Sushi is served with soy sauce, pickled ginger and wasabi.

Festivals Around the World
1. Hıdırellez (Türkiye)
Hıdırellez is celebrated on 5–6 May every year in Türkiye. It marks the arrival of spring and is believed to be the day when Hizir and Ilyas met. On this day, people write their wishes on paper and tie them to rose bushes. They also prepare special meals and have picnics near rivers and in green areas. Traditional folk songs are sung, and dances are performed around fires. It is believed that wishes made on Hıdırellez night come true.

2. Holi (India)
Holi is known as the Festival of Colours and is celebrated in March every year in India. It marks the victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring. During Holi, people throw coloured powders and water at each other in the streets. Special sweets called “gujiya” are prepared and shared with friends and neighbours. Traditional music is played and people dance together. It is a joyful celebration that brings communities together.

3. Carnival (Brazil)
The Brazilian Carnival is held in February or March, just before Lent. It is the biggest street festival in the world, and millions of people participate every year. During Carnival, large parades are organised with colourful floats, costumes, and samba dancers. People wear elaborate masks and outfits. Samba music is played everywhere, and people dance in the streets for days. Traditional Brazilian foods are sold at street stalls throughout the celebration.

Model Text
My favourite festival is Ramazan Bayramı. It is celebrated at the end of the holy month of Ramadan. First, families get up early and a special morning prayer is performed at mosques. Then, people visit their elderly relatives and neighbours. Children’s hands are kissed and they are given sweets, chocolate, and pocket money. After that, traditional foods like baklava and Turkish delight are prepared and shared with visitors. Special meals are cooked and families eat together. Finally, in the evening, people gather to enjoy time with their loved ones. It is a joyful festival that brings families and communities closer together.
Your Task
Write a blog post about your favourite festival (8–10 sentences). Include:
