Gallipoli: A Place of Remembrance
The Gallipoli Peninsula is located in the northwest of Turkey, in Çanakkale Province. It is one of the most historically significant places in the country. During World War I, the Battle of Gallipoli (1915–1916) took place here. Ottoman soldiers, led by Mustafa Kemal, defended the peninsula against Allied forces.

Today, the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park covers an area of 33,000 hectares. The park contains monuments, cemeteries, and memorials dedicated to the soldiers who lost their lives. Every year on 18 March, thousands of people visit Gallipoli to commemorate the Çanakkale Victory and the Martyrs’ Memorial Day.

The site is not only important for Turkish history but also for Australian and New Zealand history. ANZAC Day, observed on 25 April, brings visitors from these countries to pay their respects at ANZAC Cove.
