Young Inventor Wins International Award
Zeynep Kaya, who is a 16-year-old student from Trabzon, has won the gold medal at the International Science Olympiad in Geneva. Zeynep, whose project focused on renewable energy, designed a portable solar-powered water purifier that can be used in rural areas.

Zeynep, who attends Trabzon Science High School, has been interested in science since she was a child. Her father, who is an engineer, encouraged her to join the school’s science club. The teacher who supervised her project said that Zeynep was one of the most talented students he had ever worked with.

When asked about her future plans, Zeynep said she wanted to study environmental engineering at university. She dreams of developing technologies that help communities in need. The school where she studies has organised a celebration ceremony in her honour.

Profile 1 — Ayşe Özkan
Ayşe Özkan, who is a 28-year-old chef from Gaziantep, has recently opened her own restaurant in Istanbul. Ayşe, whose grandmother taught her traditional recipes, specialises in southeastern Turkish cuisine. The restaurant, which is located in Kadıköy, has received excellent reviews from food critics.

Profile 2 — Emre Turan
Emre Turan is a 35-year-old documentary filmmaker from Ankara. He is known for his films that focus on endangered wildlife in Turkey. His latest documentary, which was filmed in the mountains of eastern Turkey, follows the life of the Anatolian leopard. Emre, who studied cinema at university, says his goal is to raise awareness about nature conservation.

My Favourite Teacher

Mr. Aydın, who is our English teacher, is one of the most inspiring people I know. He has been teaching at our school for eight years. Mr. Aydın, whose lessons are always fun and creative, uses games and songs to make learning enjoyable.

What I admire most about him is his patience. He never gets angry when we make mistakes. Instead, he encourages us to try again. He is the kind of teacher who makes everyone feel welcome in the classroom. I am lucky to have a teacher like Mr. Aydın.
Your task: Write a text (8–10 sentences) about a teacher or a close friend for the school magazine. Include:
• Who they are (use a relative clause: “who is…”)
• What makes them special (personality, skills, qualities)
• A specific memory or example
• Why you admire or appreciate them
