Shifting Skies
Morning rises, cheerful and bright,
The world seems wrapped in golden light.
But clouds arrive by afternoon,
And anxious whispers fill the room.

A hopeful breeze begins to blow,
It calms the scared and soothes the low.
By evening, peaceful shadows fall,
And joyful stars light up for all.

Yet deep inside, a quiet storm,
Where depressed waves take darker form.
Then calm returns with gentle rain—
The heart finds hope and breathes again.
  1. a What is the overall tone of the poem? Does it stay the same from beginning to end, or does it change? Explain.

Take Control of Your Mood: A Guide for Teens
Feeling stressed or anxious is completely normal, especially during exam season. However, when negative emotions start to take over your daily life, it is important to take action. Here are some practical tips to help you reduce stress and boost your self-esteem.

Move your body. Physical exercise is one of the most effective ways to improve your mood. When you exercise, your brain releases serotonin, a chemical that makes you feel relaxed and confident. Even a short 20-minute walk can make a big difference.

Ground yourself. When you feel an emotional storm building up inside, try grounding techniques. Focus on five things you can see, four things you can touch, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. This helps you adapt to the present moment and distract yourself from anxious thoughts.

Talk about it. Do not keep your feelings inside. Share your strengths and weaknesses with someone you trust. Sometimes just talking about what makes you stressed can help you feel better. Recognise that everyone has both strengths and weaknesses—this is what makes us human.

Know when to get help. If you feel miserable for more than two weeks, if you cannot sleep or eat properly, or if your mood stops you from doing everyday activities, it is time to see a counselor. A professional can help you understand your emotions and develop healthy ways to cope.

Students will be able to describe their current mood / mood reflected in a song/ painting/photograph through creative writing.
Read the model paragraph below. Then write your own creative paragraph (8–10 sentences) describing your current mood or a mood you recently experienced.
Model Paragraph
Today I feel like a leaf caught in a gentle autumn breeze. I am content and grateful for the small things around me—the warm sunlight on my face, the sound of birds outside my window. Earlier this morning, I was a little anxious about my upcoming exam, like a cloud blocking the sun. But after talking to my best friend, I felt hopeful again, as if the clouds had parted and the sky had cleared. Now I sit here, peaceful and proud of myself for not giving up.
Your task: Write a creative paragraph (8–10 sentences) about your current mood or a mood you recently experienced. Include the following:
• Use at least four adjectives of feeling (e.g. anxious, cheerful, content, grateful, hopeful, miserable, peaceful, proud, thrilled, confused)
• Use at least one metaphor or comparison (e.g. “I feel like...”, “My mood is a...”)
• Describe how your mood changed during the day or during a specific event
• Explain what caused the change in your mood
Yaratıcı yazımda duygularınızı somut nesnelere veya doğa olaylarına benzetmeye çalışın. Örneğin: “I feel like a storm inside” veya “My happiness is a warm blanket.” En az dört duygu sıfatı kullanın (anxious, cheerful, content, grateful, hopeful, miserable, peaceful, proud, thrilled, confused). Ruh halinizin gün içinde nasıl değiştiğini ve nedenini açıklamayı unutmayın.
