Read the text below and answer the questions.
The Anatolian Leopard
The Anatolian leopard is one of Turkey’s most endangered animals. It lives in the mountainous forests of southeastern Turkey. In the past, there were many leopards in Anatolia, but now scientists believe there are fewer than 10 left in the wild. The leopard is a solitary animal. It usually hunts deer and wild goats at night. Its habitat is getting smaller because of deforestation and illegal hunting. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Turkish authorities are working together to protect this rare species. They should build more protected areas in the mountains.- a Where does the Anatolian leopard live?
- b How many leopards are left in the wild?
- c What does the leopard usually eat?
- d Why is its habitat getting smaller?
Metni hızlıca tarayarak (scanning) leoparın yaşam alanı, kalan sayısı, beslenme alışkanlıkları ve habitat kaybı nedenlerini bul.

A Visit to the Wildlife Centre
Last summer, our class visited a wildlife rescue centre in Bolu. There were many animals there — injured birds, baby deer and even a young bear. The centre was very big and clean. A scientist named Dr. Aydın showed us around. She said, “These animals were in danger. Some of them were sick, and some were hurt by hunters.” We saw a beautiful eagle. It was very weak when it arrived, but now it is healthy and strong. Dr. Aydın told us, “We should protect wild animals. They are important for nature.” I was very impressed. I think everyone should visit a place like this.- a Why were the animals at the rescue centre?
- b What does “showed us around” mean? Explain in your own words.
- c How was the eagle different when it first arrived and now?
- d What lesson did the writer learn from the visit?
Sadece metinden kopyalama yapma, kendi cümlelerinle anlat. “Showed us around” deyiminin anlamını düşün: gezdirmek, tanıtmak. Kartalın geçmişteki ve şimdiki durumunu karşılaştır (was/were vs is).

Students can select and use target vocabulary efficiently, effectively, and accurately after recognising them in context.
Read the text about endangered animals and complete the table.
Endangered Animals Around the World
The giant panda lives in the bamboo forests of China. In the past, there were thousands of pandas, but now there are about 1,800 in the wild. Their main threat is habitat loss. We should protect bamboo forests.
The polar bear lives in the Arctic region. Polar bears were common fifty years ago, but now they are endangered because of climate change. The ice is melting, and they are losing their homes. We should reduce carbon emissions.
The loggerhead sea turtle lives in the Mediterranean Sea. These turtles were widespread, but now many beaches are too bright and noisy for nesting. Light pollution is their biggest threat. We should keep beaches dark and quiet at night.
The Bald Ibis (kelaynak) lives in Birecik, Turkey. It was almost extinct, but conservation programmes saved it. There are now about 250 in the wild. We should continue breeding programmes.
| Animal | Habitat | Past Situation | Current Threat | What Should We Do? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Giant Panda | thousands in the wild | protect bamboo forests | ||
| Arctic region | common fifty years ago | |||
| Loggerhead Sea Turtle | widespread | keep beaches dark and quiet | ||
| Bald Ibis | Birecik, Turkey | continue breeding programmes |
Her hayvan için metni dikkatlice oku. Yaşam alanı (habitat), geçmişteki durum (was/were), güncel tehdit ve yapılması gerekenleri (should) bul. Boş hücreleri tamamla.

G1

Read the text about the Nature Club and answer the questions with complete sentences. Use Simple Present, Simple Past (was/were) or “should” in your answers.
Nature Club Report
Our school has a Nature Club. Every Friday, the club members meet in the science lab and talk about environmental problems. Last week, the topic was endangered animals in Turkey. Ayşe presented information about the Mediterranean monk seal. She said, “There were about 600 monk seals in Turkey in the 1990s. Now there are fewer than 100.” The club members were shocked. “This is terrible! What should we do?” asked Burak. The teacher, Mr. Kaya, said, “We should organise a beach clean-up day. We should also make posters to raise awareness.” Everyone agreed. Burak said, “I think we should also write letters to the local government.”- a When do the Nature Club members meet?
- b How many monk seals were there in the 1990s?
- c What should the students do according to Mr. Kaya?
- d Write one sentence with “was/were” and one with “should” about the text.
Her cevabı tam cümle olarak yaz. Geçmiş için Simple Past was/were (there were 600 seals, the topic was...), güncel durum için Simple Present (there are, the club meets), tavsiye için “should” (we should organise, we should write) kullan.

Writing — ENG.9.7.W3
W3
Students can construct new written content based on their understanding of the model(s) provided.
Read the model text below. Then write a similar paragraph about a DIFFERENT endangered animal.
Model Text
The loggerhead sea turtle is an endangered animal. It lives in the Mediterranean Sea near the coast of Turkey. In the past, there were many sea turtles on Turkish beaches. Now, their population is decreasing because of light pollution and tourism. The turtles were safe before, but now they are in danger. We should protect nesting beaches and turn off bright lights at night. I think sea turtles are very important for our ecosystem.
Your task: Write a similar paragraph about a DIFFERENT endangered animal. Include:
• What animal is it?
• Where does it live?
• What was the situation in the past? (Use was/were)
• Why is it endangered now?
• What should we do to protect it? (Use should)
• What animal is it?
• Where does it live?
• What was the situation in the past? (Use was/were)
• Why is it endangered now?
• What should we do to protect it? (Use should)
Model metindeki yapıyı takip et: hayvan adı yaşam alanı geçmişteki durum (was/were) şimdiki tehdit yapılması gerekenler (should). “In the past, there were...” ve “We should...” yapılarını kullan.
