A Great Scientist
Cahit Arf was a famous Turkish mathematician. He was born in Selanik (Thessaloniki) in 1910. His family moved to Istanbul when he was young. He studied at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and graduated in 1932. He returned to Türkiye and worked at Istanbul University. Later, he became a professor at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara. He discovered the “Arf invariant” in mathematics, which made him famous around the world. He won the TÜBİTAK Science Award in 1974. He died in Istanbul in 1997.- a What was Cahit Arf’s profession?
